Blogging for Social Causes

Truly an admirable social cause is the example of the social network of Facebook. Facebook has enormous user base they have recently launched a ‘Causes’ application tab. This allow an average user on the site to take part in equal opportunity activism and with 35,000 users joining every day the site has raised over $250,000 in the first two months.
I admire this so much because Facebook has tremendous power on the internet with so many members constantly on and taking part in existing communities. This allows for an internet community to help, petition, and be charitable from anywhere in the world.

I would most likely help my mother petition and raise money for Breast Cancer Foundation. My mother has been hosting parties, running marathons, and supporting the cure for breast cancer. An online fundraiser could be beneficial for the cause simply because my mother and her friends are always on the web.

Blog as Resume

I searched for some time and came across a web developer named Brad Willims on the site http://www.strangework.com/ I thought the blog represented his personal life and who he was as well as some projects and designs he has taken part of.. In his blog it takes you into the beginning of his career, how he got into web developing, and his current position. He shows projects being worked on and completed and allows comments to be made as inquires or remarks. Brad also includes some seminars and tutorials.

The second blog I found as a resume was this man named Bob Sutor at http://www.sutor.com/newsite/blog-open/ It looked professional and there are mostly business topics but there is some mention of his personal life as well. It seems like a very serious blog and the personal life Bruce Springsteen mentioning just seems a little out of place.

My resume on my blog would be straight forward and professional with little personal life information, only if that it would pertain to the specific job. I would of course include all my past experiences in the workforce as well as my skills attained in my schooling.

What is Web 2.0

Web 1.0 is said to be the first generation of the internet. It is a dial up internet connection with approximately 50K of average bandwidth and was included on the majority of websites between 1994 and 2004. It is the first version of the web and is read only sites and uses only HTML.

Most retail sites like The Brick would be an example of Web 1.0 because they are not interactive features for the user, there are no opportunities for blogging and there is no XML.

Web 2.0 is the second generation of the Internet. It is a broadband connection with around 1 MB of bandwidth. It is and new and improved internet that offers more people focused sites allowing the user to interact. It uses interactive XML and are read-write sites.

The site You Tube would be an excellent example of Web 2.0 because it boasts an interactive experience for the user when the have the opportunity to ‘broadcast’ themselves, not only view content but also add it.
